About
The slogan of Teacher's Farm is: Grown the way it used to be. Grown the way it ought to be. I wrote this because I wanted to avoid using terms that are ambiguous, or hard to decipher. Although ours is an organic farm, there are ways to grow organically and still be completely destructive to the environment. Therefore, the term organic has lost some of its original meaning. The same can be said of no till farming. What is tilling and what isn't is not agreed upon. I describe what I do as low till because I don't use a rototiller except when I am first establishing a new bed. However, I do use a tilther, which only disturbs the top two inches of soil when I prepare a bed for planting. Restorative agriculture is another catchphrase in market farming that doesn't have an agreed upon definition. I use bluebird boxes to keep the harmful insects at bay, and I use cover crops extensively. I have solar panels on the house, and almost all my machines are battery operated. Yet, I use a two wheeled BCS tractor which operates on gas. Is this restorative in the strictest sense of the term? I'd rather not engage the debate. I prefer the term "human scale agriculture" because that is what I do. To me, this is how it ought to be.
